The Tokyo weather department has finally declared on March 24 at 14:00 from Yasukuni Shrine where the designated tree for the declaration of the beginning of the Cherry Blossom Season.
Yes, Spring has finally arrived with the cherry blossoms painting the entire Tokyo area PINK!
Learned a little something about cherry trees.
Did you know they need to hybernate in the cold during the winter in order to create beautiful cherry blossoms to bloom? Yes they need the cold, this winter in Japan has been fairly warm hence the blossoms are either slow or will not bloom at all.
Another fact is that the trees are getting old, many are over 80 years old, need replanting in order for us to enjoy the viewing.
It is also the season of allergies, cedar and the yellow sand coming from the Gobi desert is not pleasant. The weather being so great, temperature to rise to 27C today, just gorgeous. Enjoy the sights from Yoyogi Park, NakaMeguro, Ueno Park, Shinjuku park, Chidorigafuchi along the Imperial Palace, along the Meiji Dori from Shibuya to Shimbashi.
So much to see, have a picnic, have fun before the possible rain this weekend.
